about-place / about-face
Curated by writer and artist Kevin Wilson | 11 May to 16 Jun 2024
Curated by writer and artist, Kevin Wilson, about-place / about-face takes a very different viewpoint on the concept of ‘natural place’. Working from the assumption that our perspective and understanding of ‘natural place’ is imbued with our own lived experience, 16 artists have produced artworks ranging from painting, photography, digital animation, video, sculpture, moving image installation and collaborative works that examine the idea that when we look at a place, we inevitably look in a mirror at ourselves.
Exhibiting artists: Kalulah Bird (Butchulla); Sharka Bosakova; Kane Brunjes (Gunggari, Kabi Kabi); Marguerite de Mosa; Simone Eisler; John Fuller; Joolie Gibbs; Katie Harris-MacLeod; James Muller; Colin Pennock; Karla Pringle; Melissa Stannard (Yuwaalaray Gamilaraay, Kooma, Celtic); Matthew Stanton; Emma Thorp; Nicole Voevodin-Cash; Kevin Wilson
For more information, see Traverses, a film series based on traversing interviews on a forested property in Kin Kin, Queensland, created collaboratively with each participant
Launch event is on Friday 10th May at 6.00pm. This is a strictly ticketed event, please purchase your tickets and bring along either digitally or printed for admittance at the door.
