Yalingbila Dreaming by Luke Mallie

Location: Williamson Lane, Caloundra.

Celebrating our region’s place, people and environment, our newest mural artwork by Luke Mallie brings culture, nature and people together in the heart of Caloundra.

“The artwork recognises the rich traditional area of the Jinibara and Kabi Kabi People. Against the backdrop of the Glasshouse mountains, the ocean swells with the beautiful songs of the humpback whales on their annual migration along the East Coast of Australia. The whales (yalingbila) are deeply embedded in the dreamtime stories as symbols of spiritual awareness and wisdom. Every year as the yalingbila travel North to mate and give birth, we anticipate the safe passage of their growing families. In Yaliingbila Dreaming, a mother and her calf navigate their way in the deep blue sea, a story of nurturing and protection, providing us with a sense of connection as we watch from the coastal shores and remember that every living thing is here for a special purpose.

There is an interconnectedness between humans and the environment, here on the Sunshine Coast people come together, a warm, welcoming meeting place of community, conversation and appreciation. The community conserves and protects the oceans and local environment to ensure the survival of all marine animals so the circle of life will continue for our future generations.
